COVID-19
News & Resources

As we’ve watched the Coronavirus spread this last couple of weeks, we remember that God is our refuge & strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).  The Holy Cross team continues to be in prayer & discussion to seek the Lord’s leading on the best next steps for our school. We will continue to monitor all updates from the CDC & other health outlets as well as the State Board of Education to stay flexible until the current public health crisis subsides. As decisions are made regarding school after Spring Break we will continue to update you here as well as through email & social media.

Many of you are surely wondering and may have even called or emailed to ask what the current COVID-19 limitations for our preschool mean for your tuition and daycare payments.  Please know that Holy Cross leadership has been prayerfully grappling with how best to handle this important financial matter.  We face a tension between doing what is financially prudent for our families and, at the same time, ensuring that Holy Cross may remain functional for ministry in and beyond this current crisis.  Here are some facts with which we are faced:

  • Though annual tuition payments are spread out throughout the year, these payments do not correlate with the fixed costs and expenditures incurred throughout the year to run the program.
  • Because COVID-19  is not considered “physical damage” Holy Cross, as an organization, will receive no financial assistance at this time from our insurance company.
  • And because Holy Cross operates as a non-profit entity, our hourly employees are not eligible for unemployment and we are making every effort to keep them gainfully employed for as long as we can do so.

Even with these facts in mind, and with prayerful consideration, the leadership of Holy Cross has determined that we will waive preschool tuition for the April and May in order to have the opportunity to remain connected with your family and continue to encourage your child’s growth and development through our continuous learning opportunities.

We will stop all auto-draft tuition, daycare and lunch payments for families who are paid in full through March, and connect with each of the families who have already paid for April and May.

If you are a family who is able to continue paying tuition through April and May, and would like to do so in order to support the overall Holy Cross community, please notify our Business Manager, Adrian Peppers (apeppers@holycrosslutheran.net).  Know that any such funds received will be considered a tax-deductible donation to Holy Cross.

Please make sure to sign up a time to pick up your child’s belongings, and portfolios this Thursday and Friday. If you are not able to come, please let me know and I would be happy to arrange a way for the items to get to you.
Thank you for your kindness and patience thus far and please do let us know how we can pray for and support your family.’

March 22 Pre-School Update

Greetings Holy Cross Lutheran Preschool Parents,

Hope this finds your family healthy and happy.  We know this is a trying time for your families. Please know that you are in our daily prayers.  We hope that despite the burden this crisis puts on your family, you are able to spend quality time together.

Here at Holy Cross, we are working to provide you with pertinent information.

  • 4th quarter education: Since we are entering the last quarter of the school year, it is important that we continue helping your child to build their skills needed for the next school year. We are here to give you the tools needed for this.  Your child’s education is very important to us. We dearly love our students and want to have your child ready for their next school year. Our preschool classes will have weekly packets for students and special videos made by our teachers. We will assemble resources, materials and tips to help you guide learning from home. We are also working on ways to have the children interact with their teachers and classmates over the internet. (More information will come out on this next week. Teachers are working on figuring out all the details. )
  • Picking up student’s photos, portfolios, artwork and possessions from school:There will soon be a Sign Up Genius online that will be posted on the COVID-19 response page:  https://lovemyschool.net/covid-19/ This is for you to make appointments to come next Thursday or Friday to school.  There will be tables in commons with students’ belongings, books and packets to pick up. We will combine packet pick-up with picking up these valuable items. When the spring photos and yearbooks arrive, we will put them with your child’s weekly packet to pick up if you ordered them.
  • Tuition Payments and Assistance: Here at Holy Cross, we face a tension between doing what is financially prudent for our families and, at the same time, ensuring that our school may remain functional for ministry in and beyond this current crisis.  During this time, our teachers will prepare materials, videos and resources for families to support learning at home. We will still need to pay lead teachers for their work. We will not have daycare charges, only preschool payments. The office is formulating lunch and daycare account refunds and preschool charges. Please be patient with the office as they help each family with these.
  • End of the year celebration: I think one of the hardest things about this abrupt change is that students, staff and families didn’t get closure. Our staff will miss the students that they dearly love and care about. Students were not able to say goodbye to their friends or staff. In a typical school year we have an end of the year celebration. It is our hope that when the Coronavirus situation has passed,we can have preschool family fellowship time. We would love to have families and staff connect, have a potluck/picnic and enjoy the years’ slideshow. As we progress through these weeks, we will notify you if anything can be reinstated.

This is a new circumstance for us all. We are here to support each other through this uncharted territory.

Please let me know how I can pray for your families, answer questions and address concerns.

We don’t know what tomorrow holds, but we know God is holding tomorrow.

“Be strong and courageous.  Do not be frightened and do not be dismayed.  For the Lord God is with you wherever you go. “ Joshua 1:9

The State Board is taking this week to pause and plan for our school.

Jesus took time off to pause and pray.  What a fine example for all of us!  I will pause and pray also.  I will not post any information until I know the expectations from the state and local authorities. I am in communication with other school districts and our Lutheran Schools.  After the information is provided, I will consult with the Day School.  A letter will follow with all guidelines.  The letter will be sent via email first and then Facebook. Our plan may be different than other schools to meet.

Thank you for your help and patience.
Blessings in Christ,
Karen Boettcher

Many of you might be wondering about school closures. As soon as I hear from the Health Department I will let you know. If that occurs, we will make learning online available.

Prayers and blessings.
